John has been clerking since 1991 and was first appointed Senior Clerk in 2004. He has an in-depth knowledge of members’ practices and is responsible, alongside Keith Nagle, for the smooth and efficient running of the clerks’ room to ensure that clients are provided with a high level of service.
John has been with Radcliffe Chambers (or the constituent sets) since he was a junior clerk. He has worked his way up to his current position of Joint Senior Clerk and is now, along with Keith, responsible for overseeing matters relating to the clerks’ room. He is ably supported by Justin Allen and a dedicated and efficient team of clerks. He is responsible for the development of members’ practices and the progress of chambers generally. Along with Keith, John is the main point of contact for new instructions.
With over 24 years experience in Chambers and an excellent knowledge of each member’s practice, John is well placed to advise clients on their choice of counsel and ensure that those instructing Chambers get the right barrister, or team, for their particular matter. John is always available to discuss fees, timescales, diary commitments or any other aspect of a member’s practice. He takes a sensible, flexible and commercial approach in all matters to ensure that we maintain a high level of client service, as recognised by the leading legal directories.
John is also able to assist with queries relating to Chambers’ offshore practice in a variety of jurisdictions such as Hong Kong, Singapore, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Guernsey, Jersey and The Cayman Islands.
Outside work, John enjoys playing golf; socialising with friends and watching his two sons play football. He is also involved with a local football club where he manages one of their junior teams.
John is a Member of the Institute of Barristers’ Clerks and Legal Practice Managers Association.
