Poppy Rimington-Pounder has a broad chancery practice, spanning wills, trusts and estates, property, and landlord and tenant matters.
She has been described as an “excellent advocate”, “technically excellent” and “good with clients”. She has also been recognised as “Up and Coming” by Chambers UK Bar in both their UK Bar Guide 2026 and their High Net Worth Guide 2025, as well as a “Rising Star” by Legal 500 UK Bar.
Poppy is an experienced chancery barrister who is regularly instructed to assist clients in both litigation and alternative dispute resolution. She also has a busy non-contentious practice, often advising on issues arising in the administration of trusts and estates, and assisting in non-contentious drafting. Her recent work includes:
- Probate claims concerning testamentary capacity, knowledge and approval, undue influence, and fraudulent calumny
- Claims under the Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependants) Act 1975
- Challenges to lifetime transactions
- The removal and/or appointment of personal representatives and trustees
- Costs disputes over a trustee and/or personal representative’s indemnity
- Claims for accounts against trustees and personal representatives
- Advising on the construction of wills and trusts, including in relation to the Human Rights Act 1998, s.33 of the Wills Act 1837, and perpetuity issues
- Rectification of wills and trusts
- Applications to vary trusts under the Variation of Trusts Act 1958
- Cases involving donatio mortis causa
- Dixon Coles & Gill (A Former Firm) v Baines, Bishop of Leeds & Anor [2021] EWCA Civ 1097 – assisting Thomas Dumont QC, who successfully argued that law firm partners could rely on the innocent trustees’ 6-year limitation period under s.21 of the Limitation Act 1980, even when their fraudulent partner had stolen the proceeds of conveyancing transactions
- Olga Vladimirovna Scherbakova et al v Brigita Morina et al BVIHCM 2018/0134 – (as a secondee) drafting submissions on behalf of certain beneficiaries of an estate in relation to the costs of an application by an estate’s administrators for the assessment of their remuneration, expenses and disbursements, which had been unsuccessfully opposed by another beneficiary
Poppy regularly attends possession hearings and has experience in a broad range of property matters. Her recent work includes:
- Claims under the Trusts of Land and Appointment of Trustees Act 1996
- Proprietary estoppel claims
- s.8, s.21 and Rent Act 1977 possession proceedings
- Rent arrears and disrepair claims, for both residential and commercial premises
- Forfeiture proceedings
- Applications for determination of breach of lease under s.168 of the Commonhold and Leasehold Reform Act 2002
- Claims concerning misrepresentation in property transactions
- Applications for charging orders
- Claims under the Landlord and Tenant Act 1954
- Advising on easements and restrictive covenants
