Samuel joined Chambers in October 2024 and is a first six pupil barrister.
Prior to coming to the Bar, Sam studied History at the University of Oxford. He received a first-class undergraduate degree in History and a master’s degree in Medieval History with Distinction, gaining the top mark in his year. He remained at Oxford to complete a doctorate, specialising in late medieval English history. During his studies, Sam wrote several articles in scholarly journals, and won numerous academic prizes. He also worked as a Lecturer in Medieval History at both Brasenose College and Christ Church, Oxford, and as a Research Fellow for the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography.
Sam then completed the GDL and Bar Course at City Law School, achieving a Distinction in both qualifications. He was ranked second in his year for the GDL and top in his year for the Bar Course, winning multiple prizes. His legal studies were supported by the Lord Bowen and Lord Mansfield Scholarships from Lincoln’s Inn, the Inn’s most prestigious scholarships for the GDL and Bar Course respectively.
Sam has considerable experience of mooting, winning the City Law School GDL Moot, the final of which was held at the Supreme Court and judged by Lord Mance. He has also won several essay competitions, including the Property Bar Association Essay Prize. and the Parliamentary History Essay Prize.
