Blessing applications and the extent of “immunity” for trustees and other officeholders

Rachel and James will introduce the concept of blessing applications before engaging in a spirited debate on the juridical basis in which trustees and officeholders should be protected from suit following the Court of Appeal’s decision in Denaxe Ltd v Cooper [2024] Ch 65 and the recent High Court decision Cator v Thynn [2026] EWHC 209 (Ch). This will be followed by a discussion on the practical implications of those decisions and the potential changes to the blessing jurisdiction more generally.
