Responsibilities

Responsibilities

We are committed to acting responsibly and believe that the long-term success of our barristers chambers depends on meeting and exceeding the expectations of our stakeholders in relation to how we conduct our business, and the impact that we have on our profession and society as a whole.

Our most important responsibility is, of course, to provide first-class legal services, but our stakeholders – our people, our clients, our profession and society – expect us to run our business in an ethical and sustainable way, with robust risk management procedures; to support diversity, inclusion and wellbeing, both within and outside of our organisation; to contribute to our community and the legal profession through involvement in pro bono and volunteering, and active membership of professional bodies; and to manage our environmental footprint.

Radcliffe Chambers are committed to ensuring the data held by us remains secure. We hold Cyber essentials and Cyber Essentials Plus. We also hold our suppliers responsible for their cyber security through . We carry out regular disaster recovery exercises including using some of the NCSC tabletop exercises.

The barristers of Radcliffe Chambers carry out work on behalf of their clients. On occasion part of that work might involve the use of AI technologies such as the Lexis Nexis search engine. This is solely used for the purposes of speeding up the research aspects of providing advice. Other AI processes may be used as part of general working practices. On no occasion will confidential client information be shared.

We already have strategies and procedures in place in relation to many of the priorities mentioned above and are working on an ongoing basis to ensure that we take a comprehensive approach to responsible business. Publicly reporting on our progress against our strategies will be an increasing part of this. We are working with Heart of the City to establish this process.

While we are passionate about making positive change, we are a small organisation and actively seek to collaborate with our clients, other barristers’ chambers, charities and other organisations to maximise the impact we can make. An example of this is our collaboration with youth organisation, Social Mobility Foundation who we have been working with since 2018 on our student barrister experience programmes, which aimed to encourage diversity in the legal profession. The programme won Diversity and Inclusion Initiative of the Year at the UK Legal Diversity Awards 2018.
